Alitase

Peju Alatise is an interdisciplinary artist, architect and author, living and working between Lagos and Glasgow. Trained in architecture at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria, she works across painting, film, installation and sculpture. Alatise represented Nigeria at its debut pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale in 2017 — the same year she won the prestigious FNB Art Prize — and was selected for the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2020. She participated in Frieze Sculpture, London in 2022. In 2018 she founded the Alter-Native Artists Initiative, an incubatory collective offering training and residencies to emerging artists. A fellow at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art, whose collection includes her work, Alatise is also a novelist — her debut, Orita Meta, was nominated for the ANA/Flora Nwapa Prize for Women's Writing in 2006.
